Edward Wylde (1791-1860) and his family lived in 3 Prior Park Buildings from 1838 until 1843. Edward was a Lieutenant in the Royal Naval. His wife Magdalena (1796- 1861) was born in Paramaribo the Capital of Suriname which at the time was a Dutch Colony in South America. They Married there in 1816 and had 8 children – 3 sons -Edward , John, Alfred and 5 daughters – Maria L, Caroline, Maria N, Magdelena, Johanna, of whom 5 worn born in Bath.
Edward and Magdalena died in 1860 and 1861 in the Naval Hospital in Greenwich.
Two of their sons went into the military. One, Charles went into the Navy and reached the rank of Captain and is buried in Ross Bay, British Columbia and the other Edward Andree went into the Marines and reached the rank of Major General.
Capt Wylde was member Free Masons lodge in Bristol.
Edward’s father was the Rev Sydenham Teast Wylde who was was born in Bath in 1756.
1845 – 61
John Lovenbury lived in No 3 from 1845 until 1861. John was born in 1810 to Matthew (1779-1825 ) and Sarah (1780-1846) Lovenbury (nee Mckenzie) in Weston where his parents ran a pub. He had 9 Brothers and sisters. John along with his brother James becomes an accountant. He held a number of posts within the council including becoming the Clerk to the commissioner of Taxes.
He died in 19/6/1874 aged 62 and was Buried in Abbey Cemetery
In 1856 he is joined by his maternal Aunt Elizabeth Mackenzie (1770 – 1864). In 1800 married John Palmer and had two children – Ann and John. She arrived at No 3 on her own and had reverted to her maiden name. As a fund holder she is financially independent.
Also the Rev. Isaac Berwick Pickering arrived who later also lived in 13 PPB, may be numerical typo

John Lovenbury departs No 3 but Elizabeth Mackenzie remains until she dies there on 29 August 1864 leaving £600. Her death is registered by Elizabeth Sturges (1818- ) wife of John Sinclair Sturges (1813- ) a schoolmaster also living at No 3.
In 1865 at the age of 55 he married Louisa Graham (1821-1885). He died in 19/6/1874 aged 62 and was Buried in Abbey Cemetery she died in 1885 (4th August) leaving £432 whilst living in MacKenzie Cottage Bloomfield Road.

John Sinclair Sturges (1813- ) a schoolmaster is living in No3. In the 1871 census John’s son also called John is a schoolmaster living at No 10 Prior Park Cottages along with his wife Elizabeth.
1870-87
William Silversides moved into 3 Prior Park Buildings around 1870 with his wife Sarah and daughter Eva Jane and ran a boarding school from there. Both William and Sarah were born in Hereford and in the 1841 census William is listed as a footman.
The school did well and over the years migrated from No 3 to No 2, and for a period was in both houses, and then to No 1. Then in around 1894 the school was moved to 5 Widcombe Crescent as the Clarendon School whilst the family remained in No1. William died in 1885 whilst conducting a service at the Christian’s Meeting House in Princess Street. Eva continued to live in No 1 and continued to run the school. In around 1904 she had moved to 5 Widecombe Crescent.
The School was seen as prestigious and was attended by the daughters of Aldermen Bush and Silcock. It was known for its low fees and generous prizes By 1911 there were 72 children at the school. The school closed in 1919 and Eva died 24/6/1930 and is buried in the Abbey Cemetery.
